The HubSpot Prospecting Agent: give your sales team an AI colleague

Sales team prospecting with HubSpot

Most salespeople spend a big part of their week on things that aren't selling: finding the right companies, researching contacts, writing the first email and keeping track of who needs a follow-up. HubSpot's Prospecting Agent is built to take care of exactly that work. And with Unbound 2026 it received several updates that make it far more useful for B2B companies with complex deals.

What does the Prospecting Agent do?

The Prospecting Agent is one of HubSpot's AI agents for sales. It uses your CRM data, engagement history, enriched company data and buying signals to find and prioritize the right prospects, research them and write personalized outreach. By default it doesn't send emails on its own. The rep reviews and approves, which is exactly how we recommend getting started.

The agent monitors a wide range of buying signals, such as visits to your website, engagement with your emails, hiring activity and job changes. With new integrations including UserGems for job changes and Bombora for intent data, the signals are getting both more numerous and more precise.

What's new in fall 2026

  • On-demand search. Instead of only waiting for signals, reps can ask the agent to find companies that match specific criteria, such as an industry or region they want to focus on.
  • ICP fit scoring. The agent assesses how well a company matches your ideal customer profile, so the team spends time on the right accounts.
  • Buying groups. In complex B2B deals, the decision is rarely made by one person. The agent can identify several roles within the same company and help you build out the buying group.
  • Better context. The agent reads from Growth Context and Context Home, which means it understands your offer and your tone of voice when it writes.

Five prerequisites before you switch it on

The Prospecting Agent is not plug and play. It's never better than the data and processes it works with. Make sure these are in place first:

  1. A clear ICP stored as properties. Industry, size, region and other criteria need to exist as populated properties on companies in HubSpot, not just in a slide deck.
  2. Clean data. Duplicates, outdated contacts and empty fields lead to weaker prioritization and weaker outreach.
  3. Lifecycle stages you can trust. The agent needs to know who is a customer, who is in an active deal and who is a new prospect. Otherwise you risk contacting the wrong people.
  4. Context in Context Home. Offers, objections and tone of voice make the difference between a generic and a relevant first email.
  5. A handle on licenses and credits. Enrichment and buying signals consume HubSpot Credits, and some features require Sales Hub Professional or Enterprise. Check what's included in your tier before you plan the rollout.

How to run a good pilot

We recommend starting small and measuring carefully:

  • Pick two or three reps and a clearly defined segment, such as one country or one industry.
  • Let the agent suggest prospects and write drafts, but have reps review everything for the first few weeks.
  • Track reply rates, booked meetings and how much reps actually need to change in the drafts.
  • If the drafts are weak, look upstream for the cause. It's usually ICP data or context, not the agent.
  • Once the results hold up, connect the agent's work to sequences and deal stages and scale to more reps.

What does it mean for the sales team?

The Prospecting Agent doesn't replace the salesperson. It removes the most repetitive work so reps can spend their time on conversations, meetings and deals. Combined with HubSpot's self-updating Smart CRM, which captures calls, emails and meetings automatically, it means less admin and more time for what actually drives revenue.
